For Love of Country
The Price of Freedom

book After writing "Gateway to Texas - History of Red River County" three years ago, I wanted to write another book to continue on through the time of World War II. This book contains 566 pages, forty pictures, 11 chapters, and a detailed index. When I realized that 1,000 veterans are dying each day in our country, I knew the book had to be written to preserve their stories so that future generations would know the price that was paid for their freedom.

CHAPTER 1 - EARLY BEGINNINGS - Stories of twelve pioneer families who migrated to this part of the country.

CHAPTER 2 - GRAY AND BLUE-SOME WHO SERVED - Recently discovered diary of a Confederate doctor who established a Confederate hospital in the vicinity of Clarksville - twelve personal stories of those who served - true story of "Taps".

CHAPTER 3 - WORLD WAR I - THE WAR TO END ALL WARS - Family stories of one hundred men who served their country during this war - closes with poem "In Flanders Fields".

CHAPTER 4 - HARD TIMES - Moving accounts of twelve families who lived during the Great Depression.

CHAPTER 7 - THE WAR YEARS IN THE PACIFIC - General McArthur in the Philippines - fierce fighting as the Armed Forces fought from island to island.
