D/FW Sam's Chapter project "OPERATION KOMANDO", items for our TROOPS list. The chapter project will collect donated items, like those suggested below, at each D/FW Sam campout and mail them to our Armed Services supporting our nation throughout the world. Each member is encouraged to support this Patriotic Project by donating like items to the chapter. The listing contains both small (cost) ticket items and personal items. You free to donate other items as you see fit. Some other ideas are personal letters or thank you notes to a soldier. Anything else you can think of to add please do so. Shirley O'Dell will have a deposit box for your donated items at of the campouts. The Chapter will provide the funds to box and ship the collected items.
THIS IS GREAT PROJECT, PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT!

HISTORY
Our chapter was formed January 16, 1993. We are active in the Good Sam Club and the Texas Good Sams. There are approximately 175 active chapters in Texas that are divided up into 17 areas. A State Director and a large statewide staff currently head our state organization. AIl state officers and staff members are volunteers with no salaried positions. Each area has Assistant State Directors to provide assistance. We are located in Area 13. Our members come from all over the Dallas Ft. Worth Metroplex and other nearby cities. Each chapter has elected officers.
Officers in the D/FW Sams serve one-year terms. Our 2008 President is Fendol Chiles of Dallas Texas. D/FW Sam members are mostly over 55 years old and the majority is retired or near retirement. Younger members are welcome and encouraged to join us. We presently have about 34 couples and a few singles that have lost their spouses. Our members have a variety of rigs including Class A, B & C motor homes, travel trailers and fifth wheels.
We have 3-day campouts monthly from Friday to Sunday. Many come Wednesday or Thursday to have more time to fellowship. Our campouts consists of dining out as a group, card and domino games, group games, a short business meeting, potluck dinners and a Sunday devotional. We tour local places of interest, shop, attend entertainment functions and local festivals. No alcohol or smoking is allowed inside our meeting rooms. Our regular campouts are normally within a 125 mile radius of the Metroplex. Once or twice a year, we will take a longer trip to some place interesting. We have attended festivals in Louisiana, toured Fredericksburg, Brenham and the Hill Country area. In 2007, we will have a weeklong event in Mountain View Arkansas.
We encourage our members to attend the Texas Good Sam Samboree's held at various locations in April and October and the North Texas mini-rally held in our area in September. We publish and distribute an informative newsletter bi-monthly. Membership rosters, birthday and anniversary lists and camping schedules are provided annually. We also maintain a secure chapter web site on the internet.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Be a Good Sam member and visit as a guest for 3 campouts. On your third visit, you may apply for membership. If you want to become a regular member, you can apply on your third visit. Chapter dues are $20 per year, per rig. There is a one-time fee of $70.00 per couple for vest material, chapter patches and name badges. We are always looking for a few folks who enjoy the RV lifestyle! Come visit with us. There is no obligation.
